What is Depression?
Some people may refer to depression as an overwhelming feeling of sadness that takes over their lives. Numerous people say that they feel like they have no energy and can't collect their thoughts. Others feel moody without reason. It is normal to experience feeling sad every now and then but when you feel that way for 2 weeks or more or it is affecting your day to day life, you may be suffering from depression.
Lots of people with depression will not seek help, not knowing that there is help available. Depression affects your life, your family's lives, and your work. A feeling of hopelessness can sometimes cause people to harm themselves believing that what they are feeling is permanent. However, there is hope; depression is treatable.
People who have experienced an occurence of depression have a higher chance of having another one. You may feel symptoms of depression beginning several weeks before you have an actual episode of depression. Being educated about these early signs and talking to your doctor will help to keep the depression from getting worse. |
